Information on the Puggle Breed of Dog

What Group does the Puggle belong to?

Since the Puggle is a mixed breed, it is not categorized into any one group by the American Kennel Club. With that being said, you can take a close look at the Pug and the Beagle; the two dogs that are bred to create the Puggle. This will give you a better idea of what group the breed would fit into if it were recognized by the AKC.

The Pug is a member of the Toy Group. In most cases, this means two things. First off, all of the toy dogs are very small. The Puggle does not exactly fit this mold, but at the same time they are not very large dogs either. In most cases, the Puggle will not be in bigger than 25 to 30 pounds. Is this a toy dog? No, not really. But when it comes to acting like a toy dog, the Puggle definitely fits in nicely. They love to cuddle with their owner, and even lay on his or her lap for hours on end.

The other breed that makes up the Puggle, the Beagle, is a bit different. This breed is a member of the Hound Group. These dogs have an ancestral trait of being used mainly for hunting. And in today’s day and age, the Beagle is still used in the field by hunters. The Puggle would not be an ideal dog in the field, but of course, thanks to Beagle blood it does have its nose to the ground all the time.

You could say that since the Puggle is a cross between a Pug and Beagle that it would fit in a group that is a mix of toy and hound. It is easy to see that the Puggle takes cues from both the Pug and Beagle, and it is safe to say that this is a successful mix!
